This commitment stems from the government’s “Digital and Environment” roadmap, which mobilizes all stakeholders to measure, reduce, and optimize the impact of digital technology in France.
Nathalie Hassel has been appointed as the CNR representative to oversee this initiative throughout the entire lifecycle of the website www.cnr.tm.fr.
Eco-design of websites
Eco-design applied to the creation and maintenance of websites relies on a methodology that, combined with a set of best practices, aims to reduce the environmental footprint of the website in question.
The main objectives of digital sustainability are to:

Combating the obsolescence of user, network, and server equipment;

Reducing the consumption of resources, whether IT, energy, or natural; while providing an experience that meets user needs.
Choices are made at every stage of the process, consistent with the context and objectives set, and this is done in co-pilotage with acti – the responsible digital agency chosen to create the site.
Evaluation method
acti uses the framework and calculator proposed by the GreenIT.fr collective to assess the environmental performance of the website www.cnr.tm.fr. This is quantified using two types of indicators:
- Website eco-design level. This indicator assesses the implementation of best practices to reduce the impact of a web page. The level achieved is represented by a relative rating from A to G (A being the best rating) associated with an absolute score from 0 to 100 (100 being the best rating).
- Water consumption and GHG emissions related to page load. This indicator quantifies the freshwater consumption (cls) and GHG emissions (gCO2e) related to loading a web page.
For the purposes of summarizing, four types of data are represented:

- Eco-design level for 5 typical user journeys on the website.
- Water consumption (expressed in liters) and GHG emissions (kilo CO2e) associated with loading a web page for 1 user, and reported per 1,000 users.
