CNR, a developer of territories

The concessionary of the river since 1934, CNR fulfils three missions entrusted to it by the State: producing hydroelectricity, facilitating navigation and river transport, and providing irrigation for agricultural use. It reconciles economic interests with the general interest, by associating local authorities in its governance. It redistributes to the Rhone Valley part of the value created by its electricity production generated from natural energy sources (water, wind, sun).

France’s no. 1 producer of 100% renewable electricity

Thanks to its mix of hydro-, wind and solar power, CNR is France’s leading producer of exclusively renewable electricity and an expert in optimising intermittent energies.

A manager of river navigation

CNR manages the river traffic on the Rhone from Lyon to the Mediterranean Sea, with 14 European gauge locks that permit the transport of many passengers and large volumes of goods.

Close links with the agricultural sector

CNR pays great attention to water resources and regulating their uses; thus, it assists the agricultural sector to face the challenges of climate change.

Preserving biodiversity

CNR takes care to control the impacts of its activities. It restores natural habitats to ensure the lasting preservation of the animal and plant biodiversity that flourishes along the River Rhone.

A corporate laboratory of tomorrow’s energies

CNR encourages innovation within its teams and works with research organisations, industrial groups and start-ups to imagine the decarbonated energy solutions of tomorrow.
