According to the scenarios, France must multiply its installed solar power capacity seven-fold. The particularity of bifacial, vertical solar panels is that they can be <strong>installed vertically along a line <\/strong>rather than being tilted, for example in successive rows as in most cases for ground-based plants or on roofs.<\/p>\n<p>The panels used are <strong>bifacial<\/strong>, that is to say they can absorb solar radiation on both sides, on the front and rear of the panel. Thus, by orienting these panels east-west they capture sunlight in the morning and the afternoon.<\/p>\n\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                                                                                                                                        <div class=\"editor-img as--rounded\">\n                                    <picture>\n                                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnr.tm.fr\/app\/uploads\/2025\/12\/CNR_innovation_photovoltaique_vertical_bifacial_lineaire-450x450.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n                                    <\/picture>\n                                <\/div>\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n    \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark as--bgcolor\" style=background-color:#68C6DF33>\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h3 class=\"a-title-3\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #239bd7;\">Its advantages<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Electricity production is distributed over a longer time period more in phase with the needs of consumers;<\/li>\n<li>The solar energy produced is better integrated in the electricity network by avoiding production peaks at midday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-0\" reveal>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n                \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark \" >\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h2 style=\"margin: 0cm; line-height: normal;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The Sablons demonstrator <\/span><\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The winner in 2018 of a call for solar power offers from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cre.fr\/en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Energy Regulation Commission (CRE)<\/a>\u00a0in the category \u201cinnovative photovoltaic technologies\u201d to encourage <strong>innovative solar technologies<\/strong>, CNR\u2019s linear photovoltaic demonstrator at Sablons is the\u00a0<strong>1<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0linear photovoltaic demonstrator installed on a dike in France<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This innovative technology permits <strong>accelerating the integration of solar power in the territories<\/strong>, while avoiding conflicts of use for the exploitation of long plots already used.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-2\" reveal>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                                                                                                                                        <div class=\"editor-img as--rounded\">\n                                    <picture>\n                                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnr.tm.fr\/app\/uploads\/2025\/12\/CNR_photovoltaique_grand_lineaire_bifacial_vertical-450x450.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n                                    <\/picture>\n                                <\/div>\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                                                                                                        <p>The scheme allows testing <strong>288 bifacial panels <\/strong>placed vertically side-by-side to form a linear surface along <strong>350 metres<\/strong>. With a height of 3.40 metres in 2 rows, these panels, more durable and waterproof than those in classical ground-based plants, also allow producing electricity over a longer time period better adapted to the needs of the territories and those who live in them.<\/p>\n<p>Its annual production of <strong>104 kWp<\/strong> corresponds to the electricity and heating consumption of about 50 households, while avoiding the emission of nearly 77 tons of CO\u2082 a year.<\/p>\n<p>This demonstrator can be <strong>accessed directly by the user of the dike on the Rhone<\/strong>. The plant is not enclosed and the panels can be approached close up, thus making it possible to test the reconciliation of uses in the field.<\/p>\n\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n                \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark \" >\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h3 class=\"a-title-3\"><span style=\"color: #239bd7;\">The objectives<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To study its advantage and technical-economic feasibility, in particular its compatibility with the dikes <\/strong>before considering deployment on a larger scale along the river. The structure could be adapted for an installation along highways, railways and other bases (noise barriers, enclosure walls).<\/li>\n<li><strong>To exploit land<\/strong> already used while preserving other uses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To increase awareness of the general public <\/strong>by allowing them to see the panels in operation close up, and thus increase their societal acceptance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>To participate in increasing the installed capacity of solar power in France. <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-0\" reveal>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n    \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark as--bgcolor\" style=background-color:#68C6DF33>\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h3 class=\"a-title-3\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #239bd7;\">A development integrated in its environment<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The safety function of the dike <\/strong>compatible with using a non-intrusive anchoring solution (concrete bollards).<\/li>\n<li><strong>The project is compatible with operating constraints <\/strong>due to its reduced occupation of land and regular spacing along the installation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The architecture of the construction<\/strong> avoids any contact with conductive parts (connection cables protected and inaccessible).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Panel supports <\/strong>using concrete joists placed on the ground, spaced apart to allow the passage of fauna under the rows of panels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The users of the dikes along the Rhone <\/strong>will be invited express their comments on this non-enclosed solar power plant in order to assess their acceptance of this new technology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-0\" reveal>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n                \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark \" >\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h2 style=\"margin: 0cm; line-height: normal;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Initial feedback<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Sablons demonstrator developed with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cea.fr\/english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEA<\/a>\u00a0was first tested in the laboratory and on a test bench with panels from different suppliers, making it possible to:<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-2\" reveal>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                                                                                                        <ul>\n<li><strong>Verify the performance ratio of the rear face of the panel <\/strong>in relation to that of the front face. A panel with a high bi-faciality coefficient will have better performances.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Measure the influence of reflection on the soil <\/strong>for the production of the panels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Evaluate the impact of the panel connection cable junction boxes <\/strong>and the frames supporting the panels providing shade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ines-solaire.org\/en\/ines-2s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">INES 2S<\/a>\u00a0is carrying out other studies on the performances of the installation during its first years
