A multi-partner experiment, this innovative project combines <strong>crop protection and renewable energy production<\/strong> to meet the challenges of agricultural transition.<\/p>\n<p>Agriculture is greatly affected by <strong>climate change<\/strong> which increases the risk of damage by frost and drought. These climatic phenomena affect the quality and quantity of production, thus on the income of farmers. They must therefore <strong>adapt their farming methods<\/strong> to these new conditions and begin their transition in a situation of scarcer water resources. It is dynamic when the shade provided by the panels can be controlled according to the needs of the plants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The orientation of these panels<\/strong> is controlled by algorithms and data collected by sensors that measure light, temperature, hygrometry and the state of the plants\u2019 hydric health.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the case, priority is given to the needs of the plants, with <strong>renewable electricity production <\/strong>taking second place.<\/p>\n\n class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h2>Experimentation at Dardilly<\/h2>\n<p>Begun during the Rhone Challenge of 2018 in which CNR and the Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes Region voted to launch a local demonstrator for innovative irrigation and energy technologies in the service of agriculture, the aims of this agrivoltaics experiment are to:<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-2\" reveal>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                  <ul>\n<li>Manage water resources sustainably;<\/li>\n<li>Favour the adaptation of farm crops to climate change;<\/li>\n<li>Harness the production of renewable electricity;<\/li>\n<li>Provide feedback to the sector and professionals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This aim of this demonstrator is also to test and <strong>validate the model\u2019s technical-economic viability<\/strong>, and consider its replication in other farms.<\/p>\n<p>This project has been funded through the 5Rh\u00f4ne Plans and represents a total investment of <strong>\u20ac1 million<\/strong>, 40% of which was provided by the Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes Region.<\/p>\n\n style=background-color:#68C6DF33>\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h2>Two experimental sites<\/h2>\n<p>The \u201cFields of the Future\u201d project studies the behaviour of the same crop on <strong>two fields of the same surface area<\/strong>, one equipped with photovoltaic canopies and the other without, called control field.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of 2023,<strong> 504 mobile photovoltaic panels <\/strong>were installed at a height of <strong>5 metres above<\/strong> two fields, with a total power of <strong>230 kWp<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-2\" reveal>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-center\">\n                                                                                                        <h3 class=\"a-title-3\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #239bd7;\">The site of Colline<\/span><\/h3>\n\n      <\/div>\n                                                                                                                <p>The site of Colline is intended for growing <strong>strawberries using organic farming <\/strong>and <strong>raspberries using traditional farming<\/strong> <strong>methods<\/strong>. It covers an area of 3,000 m\u00b2:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1,500 m\u00b2<\/strong> under canopies equipped with bifacial photovoltaic panels, i.e. which receive both the direct rays of the sun and rays reflected by the ground;<\/li>\n<li><strong>1,500 m\u00b2<\/strong> of control plots under a tunnel greenhouse and agroforestry (plantation of kakis providing shade) for the strawberries and under the tunnel greenhouse for the raspberries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-center\">\n                                                                                                        <h3 class=\"a-title-3\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #239bd7;\">Soilless nursery<\/span><\/h3>\n\n                                                                                                                                                <div class=\"editor-img as--rounded\">\n                                    <picture>\n                                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnr.tm.fr\/app\/uploads\/2025\/12\/CNR_agrivoltaisme_Parcelles_du_futur_plantes_ornement-450x450.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n                                    <\/picture>\n                                <\/div>\n                                                                                                                <p>The site of the nursery is intended for growing <strong>ornamental plants<\/strong>. It has a surface area of <strong>1,500 m\u00b2<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>750 m\u00b2<\/strong> under canopies equipped with bifacial photovoltaic panels,<\/li>\n<li><strong>750 m\u00b2<\/strong> of non-covered control fields.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The soil is covered by black or white tarpaulins to study the impact on the behaviour of plants and on electricity production of the difference in albedo*.<\/p>\n<p><em>*Albedo: the physical value that indicates the quantity of incident sunlight reflected by a surface.<\/em><\/p>\n\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n                \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark \" >\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h2>The advantages for plants<\/h2>\n\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <div class=\"inner-wrap \">\n        <div class=\"as--column as--columns-2\" reveal>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                                                                                                        <p>These experiments are aimed at showing that <strong>managing a field shaded by controlled photovoltaic panels installed above crops<\/strong> can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Protect crops <\/strong>against climatic hazards (frost, hail);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Control temperatures<\/strong> and sunlight;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Support protection nets <\/strong>(hail protection, anti-insect, rain shelters);<\/li>\n<li><strong>Secure and perpetuate yields <\/strong>while improving product quality;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reduce the water consumption <\/strong>of plants by limiting their evapotranspiration using the shade provided by the panels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                            <div class=\"as--column__item editor-wysiwyg h-align-left\">\n                                                                                                                                        <div class=\"editor-img as--rounded\">\n                                    <picture>\n                                        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cnr.tm.fr\/app\/uploads\/2025\/12\/CNR_agrivoltaisme_dynamique_Parcelles_du_futur__benefices_vegetaux-450x450.jpg\" alt=\"\">\n                                    <\/picture>\n                                <\/div>\n                                                                                                                                    <\/div>\n                    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n    \n                \n\n<section class=\"content-section as--normal-margin as--txt-dark \" >\n            <div class=\"inner-wrap\" reveal>\n            <div class=\"editor-wysiwyg h-mb-40\">\n                <h2>Promising results<\/h2>\n<p>The experiment, lasting 3 years, will continue until 2026.
