CNR has ensured that the development of the navigable waterways of the Rhone is optimal. They are not reserved for goods transport alone! The development of river tourism receives considerable support from CNR, notably by the construction of specific landing stages for passenger boats at sites with strong tourist and economic potential, and piers for pleasure craft.

The Rhone, a navigable waterway of 330 km accessible to river tourism

How can you discover the rich heritage of the Rhone Valley between Lyon and the Mediterranean in a relaxing and original way? By boat, of course! Taking advantage of river tourism on the Rhone simply requires sailing on the 330 kilometres of the navigable waterway and passing through the 14 locks (passage free of charge) staggered along the itinerary.

The Upper Rhone: an additional 57 km

In 2010 CNR built and commissioned the locks of Chautagne and Belley in order to develop the tourism potential of the Upper Rhone and make river boating in France available to more people. These locks complete the lock of Savières which has served to link Lake Bourget to the Rhone since 1983. Together, these three locks provide 57 km of continuous navigable waterway for pleasure boaters upstream of Lyon, between Seyssel and Brégnier-Cordon.

Electricity terminals for stimulating river tourism

To give greater impetus to river tourism, CNR has also installed high power electricity terminals supplied by 100% green electricity and is involved in work groups capable of providing services on both water and land. This sector of activity contributes to valorising the River Rhone and its environment, and has a positive impact on the local economy.
